The Chaar is a rare Kyrgyz breed that came close to disappearing and is recovering through our breeding programme.
Your four years of monthly support look after the herd, including the mares and stallions that will bring her into the world. When you join, you're added to our WhatsApp group, a close-knit community of everyone who has owned or is owning a Chaar foal. She's born in your fourth year, not your first. What happens then, whether she stays at Chaar Ranch with the herd or you arrange to bring her home, is your call, and we'll talk you through both when the time comes.

Four years, three stages
stage one
You commit
€50 a month for 48 months, €2,400 in total. It pays for feed, veterinary care, winter hay, protection from predators and the horsemen's wages.
years one to three
The herd makes it possible
There's no foal yet. Your money looks after the current herd, including the mares and stallions that will produce your filly. They are the reason the herd can grow towards 130 horses by 2029.
year four
She's born
A Chaar filly from the breeding programme, carrying the Chaar Suluu line, is born and becomes yours.

Then you choose
You decide together with our team as the four years come to a close.
She stays at Chaar Ranch
Your filly is born into the herd in Kyrgyzstan and stays under our care. You get updates as she grows, and she's yours to visit, at the ranch or on a future Chaar Expedition.
You bring her home
If you'd rather take her yourself, that's possible once she's old enough to travel. International transport and paperwork are arranged separately, and our team will talk you through what's involved.
why it matters
What your four years pay for
- Keeping the herd healthy through hard Kyrgyz winters
- Caring for the mares and stallions that make the herd's growth towards 130 horses by 2029 possible
- Protecting both the breed's genetics and the culture around it
- Paying the horsemen who watch the herds all year and guard them from wolves and snow leopards
- Before the programme, many foals didn't survive the winter. Every filly born now is one the herd would once have lost.

Questions people ask
How is this different from a one-off or monthly donation?+
One-off and monthly gifts pay for the herd's day-to-day care. Adopting a foal is a four-year commitment tied to one particular filly, born through the breeding programme and yours at the end of it. If you'd rather give without the commitment, there's a one-off gift or monthly support.
What happens to my filly after the four years?+
You choose. She can stay at Chaar Ranch as part of the herd, with updates and an open invitation to visit, or you can arrange to bring her home yourself.
Can I visit the ranch before she's born?+
Yes. Ranch visits and the annual expedition are both ways to see the herd during your four years of support. See the ways to visit.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?+
If your foal stays at Chaar Ranch as part of the breeding programme, French tax residents can claim the same 66% deduction through HelloAsso as on our other donations. If you choose to take the foal home, the contribution isn't tax-deductible. Outside France, check with your local tax adviser. We'll confirm the payment details when we talk.
What if I can't keep going for the full four years?+
