The unique masterpiece “Chaar Appaloosa”: artwork by Alice Shirley sold for an incredible price

Alice Shirley ran the auction on her Instagram page. For a week she worked on the painting each day while her followers watched it take shape, and the bids rose day by day.

Bidding kept climbing until the auction closed on the final day, and the painting is now with its new owner in Japan.

The design, “Chaar Appaloosa”, made in support of the Chaar breeding programme, now also appears on Chaar merchandise.

Drawing inspiration from ancient petroglyphs, the artwork captures the dynamic motion of a running Chaar horse, set against intricate patterns reminiscent of traditional Kyrgyz rugs, with details in 22-carat gold leaf.
